Ingredients
  • 6 regular size tea bags ( I use Tetley regular )
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups cold water
  • ice to serve
  • lemon wedges to serve
  • mint garnish to serve

Directions
  1. In a Pyrex large measuring cup place 6 regular size tea bags, and 1/8 teaspoon baking soda. The baking soda helps to keep the tea clear. and also less bitter.
  2. Pour 3 cups boiling water over top of bags and cover with saran wrap or plate.
  3. Allow to steep undisturbed for 20 minutes.
  4. When time is up, remove tea bags with a slotted spoon, gently, and DO NOT squeeze the bags, as you will be tempted to do.
  5. Stir in the three quarters cup of white sugar, and stir until dissolved. (I like this with this amount of sugar, but some family members like it with more, so use what you like 3/4 to 1-1/4 cup sugar)
  6. Add 5 cups cold water, stir, pour into serving jug and chill.
  7. Serve over ice cubes in a tall glass, with lemon wedge or a lemon twist, a sprig of mint, or a lemon mint leaf. Remember also that lemon juice or lemon will take away the clearness of the drink.
  8. Add a bright yellow straw, and your good to go.

Thanks for this recipe. As a transplanted Yankee, I'm familiar with Iced Coffee but Iced Tea has been beyond me. I like the addition of baking soda for clarity and sweetness.
