Ingredients

How to make it

  • Sift the flour and baking powder inside a pot, adding the salt.
  • Inside a mixer mix the mahlepi spice with the mastic and a tablespoon of flour.
  • Add the mixture to the pot with the flour and the baking powder.
  • In another pot mix the sugar with the butter, and add the eggs.
  • Then add the flour mixture and the milk.
  • Grease the pan which you are going to use to bake the pie with some butter.
  • Pour the final mixture inside the baking pan.
  • (At this point you can place a coin in silver foil and add it in the mixture. This is part of a Greek custom. It is not relevant to the cooking process)
  • Bake at 180 C (about 360 F) for 45 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and wait until it reaches room temperature.
  • Then sprinkle the top of the pie with powdered sugar.
