Italian Quickie

- 1/2lb uncooked pasta(preferably penne, rotini, etc) shopping list
- 1lb sausage, ground beef or chicken(ground or diced) shopping list
- olive oil shopping list
- 1 onion, diced shopping list
- 3 cloves garlic, minced shopping list
- 12oz fresh mushrooms, sliced shopping list
- 3-4 cups pasta sauce(either leftover homemade or your favorite jarred variety) shopping list
- 6-8oz sliced provolone, mozzarella or muenster cheese(can used shredded,, if that's what you've got :) shopping list
- fresh Italian herbs, if available...basil, oregano, parsley shopping list
How to make it
- Set water to boil in large pot for pasta. Cook to the lesser time that is recommended on packaging. (ie, if it says 7-9 minutes, cook it for 7:)
- Meanwhile, in large, preferably stovetop and oven safe(I used well seasoned cast iron), cook sausage, or other meat, mushrooms, onion, and garlic with a drizzle of olive oil. See Photo
- Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until done and onions are tender.
- Drain slightly, if needed.
- Add pasta sauce and a few fresh herbs, if using, and stir well to combine. See Photo
- Add cooked, drained pasta and toss, again. See Photo
- Top with cheese slices and either let heat for a few minutes on the stove top to melt cheese, and thicken dish, slightly...or toss it in the oven at 400 for about 10 minutes to do the same. See Photo
- Serve with crusty bread and a salad :)
