How to make it

  • Heat oven to 350
  • Melt butter in heavy 10 inch skillet or square pan, 9x9x1 3/4 inches
  • Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the butter
  • Arrange the cut peaches over the sugar- butter mixture
  • Stir flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl
  • Add shortening, milk, vanilla, and lemon
  • Beat 2 minutes on medium speed
  • Scrape sides and bottom of the bowl constantly
  • Add egg and beat 2 more minutes
  • Bake 45 minutes
  • Turn immediately over on a platter, but leave pan over cake for 3min
  • Serve warm with wipped cream
