- 4 cups water shopping list
- 5 tbsp butter (melted) shopping list
- 4 tbsp dry active yeast shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cardamom shopping list
- 9 cups flour shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 cup shredded coconut shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups vanilla custard shopping list
- icing (confectioners) sugar shopping list
- water shopping list
How to make it
- Heat water and butter to just below boiling.
- Mix flour, sugar, cardamom, yeast, and egg in a standing mixer.
- Add warm water and mix on medium speed for five minutes until dough is stiff.
- Form into a ball and place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise until dough has doubled in size.
- Roll the dough out like a sausage and cut into five oz pieces.
- Roll each piece into a ball and put them on a non-stick sheet pan.
- Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Bake for 15 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let cool.
- Mix powdered sugar and water (use small amounts until proper consistency is achieved) to make icing and place in a shallow dish.
- Push dents into the buns, not all the way through (like for bialys).
- Dip bread in icing (hole side down) and sprinkle with shredded coconut.
- Squeeze or spoon vanilla custard inside of hole.
