How to make it

  • Peel pears, cut of stem top and slice in half vertically
  • Scoop out seeds with a spoon
  • In a heavy duty pan add water sugar, place in pears evenly.
  • Add, lemon juice, saffron and vanilla bean
  • Bring to a boil
  • Simmer covered until pears are fork tender but not mushy- maybe 15 minutes or so
  • Let pears cool in their liquid
  • Cover and chill well prior to serving
