How to make it

  • Toast and chop slivered almonds. Sprinkle half of the nuts on a parchment lined cookie sheet.
  • Have chocolate chips measured and ready before starting toffee mixture
  • Melt butter in heavy sauce pan, add sugar and salt and cook over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is a dark caramel color and reaches 300°-310° (5-10 minutes). Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  • Pour toffee mixture over the chopped nuts and spread evenly. Next, scatter chocolate chips over toffee mixture and spread to melt. Sprinkle the remaining nuts over melted chocolate and refrigerate until hardened.
  • When cool, push tip of table knife into the toffee to break into desired pieces. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator.
