Ingredients

How to make it

  • Put pork, potatoes, onion, garlic, pickling spice in cheese cloth, salt & pepper in a pot and add water to cover. Cook stirring often until the meat is grey and hot. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the water has cooked down. Remove pickling spice bag. Add remainder of the spices and the bread crumbs and mix well. Adjust seasonings to taste. (We like ours quite spicy, so I tend to add more than recipe calls for). Cool. Fill pastry lined pie plates and top with top crust. Cook at 375 degrees as you would a pie until crust is a golden brown.

I loved the pickling spice in this, really unique! I did partial beef and pork but next time I will do all pork. My husband really loved this! He liked all the spices in it, but I think my kids would prefer less allspice and clove. So I will eyeball that next time.
I baked it 400F for 15 mins, then turned it down to 375F and baked for about 35 mins more. I also did an egg wash on the pie crust.
