From gaspesiangal 8 years agoIngredients
- Pastry for 2 large pies - double crust shopping list
- 3 lbs ground lean fresh pork (may use 2 lbs pork & 1 lb lean ground beef) shopping list
- 2 cups shredded potatoes (packed) shopping list
- 2 cups chopped onion... shopping list
- 2 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 tsp savory shopping list
- ½ tsp cloves shopping list
- 3 large cloves garlic, chopped shopping list
- 1/2 tsp sage shopping list
- 1/2 tsp celery salt shopping list
- 1 tsp allspice shopping list
- 1/2 tsp pepper shopping list
- 1 tbsp pickling spice tied in a cheese cloth bag (remove at end of cooking) shopping list
- Enough water to barely cover meat shopping list
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs (added later) shopping list
How to make it
- Put pork, potatoes, onion, garlic, pickling spice in cheese cloth, salt & pepper in a pot and add water to cover. Cook stirring often until the meat is grey and hot. Simmer for 30 minutes or until the water has cooked down. Remove pickling spice bag. Add remainder of the spices and the bread crumbs and mix well. Adjust seasonings to taste. (We like ours quite spicy, so I tend to add more than recipe calls for). Cool. Fill pastry lined pie plates and top with top crust. Cook at 375 degrees as you would a pie until crust is a golden brown.
