Ingredients

How to make it

  • • Cream butter and sugar together. Mix in extracts, anise, and salt.
  • • Add other ingredients except powdered sugar. Be sure to work in all of the flour, using your hands to knead it if necessary.
  • • Roll into a large, flattened disc, wrap in plastic wrap & refrigerate several hours or overnight.
  • • Before baking, allow the dough to sit at room temperature until just soft enough to handle, about ½ hour.
  • • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • • Roll dough into walnut–sized balls; place on ungreased or parchment lined cookie sheet 1” apart.
  • • Bake for 40-45 minutes if you like browned cookies or 30-35 minutes if you prefer paler ones.
  • • Cool 15 minutes.
  • • Then roll cookies in powdered sugar.
