Ingredients
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup salt
  • 2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tablespoon cooking oil
  • Food coloring

Directions
  1. Mix dry ingredients in a heavy pan. Add oil, water & coloring. Cook 3 minutes (medium heat), turn out and knead slightly. Store in airtight container.
  2. [NOTE: It cooks up fast; in a sort of lump; I cook til dry, then knead. I also add a few drops of oil of pepperment or baby oil to make it smell good. The pan cleans up very easily. The playdough will dry hard, but I don't advise playing with it on shag carpeted areas!]

I've always liked the smell of playdough. Smells like wild musk to me. When I catch a whiff of that smell it hies my mind back to when I was a child in school.

Now that I'm all growed up this recipe looks like it could be used as a very salty roux.
