Hot Italian Sausage Lasagna - Tried And True Recipe
What an incredible tried and true lasagna. I obtained this recipe from my sister-in-law who is a magnificent cook. She tweaked 2-3 lasagna recipes to come up with this delight. Enjoy

Ingredients
  • 1 package mild Italian sausage
  • 1 package hot Italian sausage
  • 1 pound ground round
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 1 small can sliced black olives
  • 1 small white onion chopped
  • 1 jar traditional spaghetti sauce
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon sweet basil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 cup water
  • Filling:
  • 24 ounce container small curd cottage cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 9 ounce package oven ready lasagna noodles
  • Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • Shredded Parmesan Cheese

Directions
  1. In a large skillet brown hamburger meat and sausage.
  2. Add butter, garlic, salt and pepper.
  3. Add mushrooms and onions then cook until meat is no longer pink and vegetables are cooked.
  4. Add olive then spaghetti sauce.
  5. Drain diced tomatoes and add to pot then add water and cover.
  6. Simmer on low for 1/2 hour stirring occasionally.
  7. Add more water while cooking if it seems too thick.
  8. Mix filling ingredients together.
  9. In a lasagna pan put a layer of meat sauce then a layer of uncooked noodles and a layer of filling.
  10. Alternate layers making the last layer the sauce.
  11. Add more shredded mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese on top then sprinkle with parsley.
  12. Bake at 350 covered with foil for 30 minutes.
  13. Take foil off and bake for 20 minutes then allow to stand 10 minutes before serving.

Made this with just the sausage meats. After I cooked the meat I put it through the food processor before adding it to the sauce and this was the best red sauce lasagna I have ever had. Thanks to your sister-in-law and you.

I have made lasagna many different ways. This is the best looking lasagna recipe we have ever had the pleasure of reading. I do not have to make it to know. But I am going to all the same. A perfect Five!
