Banaha Indian Bread Recipe
This is a Choctaw version of corn bread, as opposed to fry bread. Almost like a Native American tamale. Great with cream.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups Cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups Boiling Water
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • Corn Shucks (soak in boiling water for 10 min. before use)

Directions
  1. Mix dry ingredients to combine, add boiling water mixing until dough is stiff and easy to handle.
  2. Form oblong ball and place in corn shucks.
  3. To wrap: strip a few shucks to make strings. Tie 2 strips together at ends.
  4. Fold carefully and tie in the middle with strings.
  5. Place in large stew pot and boil 30 to 45 minutes.
