How to make it

  • In large skillet, cook onions in oil over medium heat until golden brown, not crunchy, stir frequently.
  • In a large bowl, combine onions, carrots, salt and pepper. Toss to combine.
  • Transfer to a greased shallow 3 qt. baking dish. Cover and bake at 400 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until tender.
  • When done, stir in syrup and butter, coat well. Sprinkle with french-fried onions and bacon.
  • Bake, uncovered, 5 minutes longer or until french-fried onions are browned.
  • Garnish with green onions. Serve hot.

    Made this tonight, and it's exactly as you describe. Just scanning the recipe, it seems like the ingredients don't go together, but they sure do! Smoooth.
