German Chocolate Bars Recipe

I got this recipe from a little Betty Crocker cookbook. I made them and they were a big hit.

Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 package supermoist German chocolate cakemix
  • 1 package (6 oz ) semisweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
  • 1 tub Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy coconut pecan ready-to-spread frosting
  • 1/4 cup milk

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350.F
  2. Lightly grease bottom and sides of a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.
  3. Cut butter or margarine into cake mix in medium bowl, using pastry blender or fork, until mixture looks like fine crumbs. Press half of the mixture (2 1/2 cups) in bottom of pan.
  4. Bake 10 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over baked layer. Drop frosting by tablespoonfuls over chocolate chips.
  5. Stir milk into remaining cake mixture. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto frosting layer.
  6. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until cake portion is slightly dry to touch; cool completely.
  7. Refrigerate until firm.(about 2 hours)Cut into 24, 2 x 1 inch bars.
