How to make it

  • Combine ground beef with eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder and dry basil. I like to use a large bowl and my hands for this step.
  • Form patties from the meat mixture, smaller will cook faster.
  • Brown in a large pan or pot that will accommodate all your patties plus a 4-6 cups of gravy. Brown in two batches if not able to fit all at once.
  • Remove patties to a platter and add onion and garlic to pan drippings.
  • After they cook for a minute or two add in 3-4 tbls of flour (depending on amount of pan drippings) and cook for another minute or two.
  • Add between 3-4 cups of water and allow to boil while stirring to get everything off the bottom of the pan.
  • When the sauce is boiling (so that you can gage the thickness- if sauce is thicker than you want add more water) add salt and pepper to taste, then add the meat back in.
  • Reduce heat to a simmer and let cook for about 20-30 minutes and then serve with mashed potatoes or noodles.
