How to make it

  • In large mixing bowl combine flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, 2 teaspoons butter, milk, salt and walnuts.
  • Mix well and set aside.
  • In a large deep iron skillet caramelize 1/2 cup of sugar.
  • When sugar is light brown add hot water and remaining sugar then bring to a boil and add remaining butter.
  • Stir until blended then carefully drop teaspoonfuls of dumpling batter into hot liquid and cook for 5 minutes at 400.
  • Stir gently and continue to cook for another 5 minutes.
