Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon corn syrup
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped cooked vegetables (for instance, diced potatoes and carrots, or canned Veg-All will work)
  • 1 pint half-and-half
  • chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Directions
  1. Over medium-low heat, melt the butter or margarine in a 3-quart pot, then add the onion and garlic powders and corn syrup. Let cook for 1 minute, but do not allow to brown.
  2. Add the flour, white pepper, salt, chicken broth, water, and cooked vegetables and simmer for 3 minutes.
  3. Stir in the half-and-half and simmer, stirring constantly, until your desired consistency is reached. Do not allow it to come to a boil.
  4. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve.
