Thyme Pepper Burgers Recipe
This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Hachem Estate in Quinlan, Texas in 1982.

Ingredients
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 medium green bell pepper cut into strips

Directions
  1. In large bowl mix egg, milk, bread crumbs, salt and nutmeg.
  2. Add ground beef and mix by hand until well blended then shape into 4 patties.
  3. Place a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add patties and brown for 4 minutes on each side then remove from skillet.
  5. Add onion to skillet and cook until tender but not browned then drain off excess fat.
  6. Whisk together beef broth and flour.
  7. Pour into skillet and stir in Worcestershire sauce and thyme.
  8. Cook over medium heat stirring until thickened.
  9. Return patties to skillet and add green peppers.
  10. Cover and simmer until burgers are cooked through about 5 minutes.
