Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

- 1 head cabbage, cored and cut into wedges shopping list
- 1 1/2 pounds ground lean beef shopping list
- 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce shopping list
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes shopping list
- 1 onion, diced shopping list
- 2 medium carrots, shredded shopping list
- 2 quarts water, separated shopping list
- 2 tbsp white vinegar shopping list
- 1/2 cup white sugar shopping list
- 4 beef bouillon cubes shopping list
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper shopping list
- 3 garlic cloves, minced shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
How to make it
- Crumble the beef and place into a large pot. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, onions, carrots, vinegar, sugar, bouillon cubes, salt and pepper.
- Add in 1 qt of water, and bring to a boil. Stir to separate the beef during heating. Once at a boil, cover and simmer for 30 minutes over a low heat. Add in another quart of water, and return the mixture to a slow boil. Stir in the cabbage and garlic then simmer for 25 minutes, until cabbage becomes tender. Place the soup into bowls by ladle, and serve.
