How to make it

  • Butter should be solid and cold.
  • Shave into a bowl with a peeler.
  • Mix butter and flour with pastry blender until crumbly.
  • Add water and mix well.
  • Put mixture into a pie plate and cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Mix filling ingredients together until well mixed.
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Divide filling and crust into 8 equal parts.
  • Roll 1 piece of curst on floured board to 10-12" long and as thin as you can. Spread 1/2 of filling on 12" side and roll up like a jelly roll.
  • Use beaten egg to seal edges and seams.
  • Place on a cookie sheet, slit the top every 1".
  • Repeat steps for other 7 rolls.
  • Brush each roll with beaten egg.
  • Bake at 400 for 20-25 minutes.

    do you mix the baking powder with the 4 cups flour? what about the 1/2 flour, is that added to the recipe or used to flour the board to roll them out on?
