How to make it

  • Grease 9 inch loaf pan
  • Line with wax paper
  • Butter the wax paper and sprinkle with flour
  • Shake out excess flour
  • Mix boiling water with soda and pour over dates and raisins
  • In large bowl, cream butter and sugar
  • Beat in vanilla and egg
  • Add flour, mix well
  • Add date-raisin-water mixture
  • Mix all until blended
  • Add walnuts
  • Pour into prepared pan
  • Bake in 325 degree oven for 1 hour - 1 hour and 15 minutes OR
  • until inserted wooden pick comes out clean
  • Cool about 5 minutes
  • Unmold on rack and remove paper

    All I have to do is go get walnuts. I have dates from Calif. that I got at the Caspian Market that I have to do something with. They are so sweet and rich!!!!!!!!
