Gingerbread Cake Recipe
i've been playing around with gingerbread cake recipes lately and this is my favorite. it makes the house smell so good!

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon five spice
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 cup molasses mixed with 1 cup hot black tea (i used lipton)
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Directions
  1. preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. mix all your dry ingredients into a bowl and set aside.
  3. beat the wet ingredients and sugar together until well mixed. now add the dry mix in three equal batches.
  4. pour into a greased 9 x 2 pan and smooth top. you can drop it against the counter to remove the air bubbles as well.
  5. bake for 45 to 55 min. let cool about 10 min.
  6. i like just a pat of butter on my slice but my daughter prefers a simple glaze.
