An Instant Grits Starter Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup instant grits

1 tablespoon or more of powdered cheese

2 cups boiling water

1 tablespoon or more of butter

1 tsp salt

dash pepper

other spices/seasonings as desired

Directions

Put the 2 cups of water and butter in the microwave to boil.

Meanwhile, in a 8 cup or bigger bowl, add the rest of the ingredients and with a wire whisk, stir to mix well.

When the water is boiling, stir into dry ingredients.

Put back in the microwave and boil for 3 minutes.

Remove and stir well.... if not thick and creamy, put back in the microwave and boil for 3 more minutes.

To serve, we add 4-6 packets of Equal to a bowl, add a cup or two of grits and serve with whole milk.

Note that the cooked grits can be chilled in a greased coffee can, sliced with a thread and fried like mush.

Some of the seasonings and spices you can use: garlic, onion, chili and so forth.

I love grits and gravy for a snack but haven't had them in years not since Grandma died I wasn't really a house kind of kid then so I didn't even learn the basic from her Now it's to late
