Sand Layering

- OLD NEWSPAPER shopping list
- SAND OR salt shopping list
- FOUR margarine TUBS shopping list
- food coloring OR POWDERED TEMPERA PAINT shopping list
- BABY-FOOD JARS WITH LABELS REMOVED -- ONE PER CHILD shopping list
- FOUR SPOONS shopping list
- PENCILS shopping list
- CONSTRUCTION paper SCRAPS shopping list
- SCISSORS shopping list
- GLUE shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Cover table with newspaper. Separate sand or salt into the four margarine tubs.
- 2. With food coloring or powdered tempera paint, dye the sand or salt in each bowl a different color.
- 3. Carefully spoon one color of snd into a baby-food jar to make a layer about 1 inch deep.
- 4. With the spoon, pat the sand firmly in the jar.
- 5. Make three or four layers using the other colros. Make sure to pack after each color.
- 6. To intermingle the differnt colors, poke a pencil or small wire down the sides of the jar.
- 7. Decorate the top of the jar in any fashion. Can be used as a paperweight.
