How to make it

  • 1. Cover table with newspaper. Separate sand or salt into the four margarine tubs.
  • 2. With food coloring or powdered tempera paint, dye the sand or salt in each bowl a different color.
  • 3. Carefully spoon one color of snd into a baby-food jar to make a layer about 1 inch deep.
  • 4. With the spoon, pat the sand firmly in the jar.
  • 5. Make three or four layers using the other colros. Make sure to pack after each color.
  • 6. To intermingle the differnt colors, poke a pencil or small wire down the sides of the jar.
  • 7. Decorate the top of the jar in any fashion. Can be used as a paperweight.
