Ingredients
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup dried currants
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 slightly beaten egg

Directions
  1. In a mixing bowl stir together first 4 ingredients.
  2. Cut in butter till mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in currants.
  4. Add the first beaten egg and milk; stir just till dough clings together.
  5. Knead gently on a lightly floured surface (12 to 15 strokes)
  6. Cut dough in half; shape each half into a ball.
  7. Pat or roll to a 6 inch circle.
  8. Cut each circle into 8 wedges.
  9. Place wedges on an ungreased baking sheet so sides of wedges dont touch.
  10. Brush with the slightly beaten egg.
  11. Bake in oven for 10 minutes.
  12. Serve warm with butter and jam.
