Ingredients
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked rice
  • 1 cup seedless raisins
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 5 tbsp butter or margarine

Directions
  1. Bring water to a boil over high heat, add rice, reduce heat to simer, cover, and cook for 2- minutes or until rice is tender. Remove from heat.
  2. Add raisins, turmeric, cinnamon, brown sugar and butter; mix well, cover and reduce heat to warm for 10 minutes.

Crossfire, I checked for a yellow rice (geelrys) recipe before placing one on the Proudly South African group. I expected to find a South African connection somewhere, since this is a very common way of preparing rice amongst our rural folk. The ingredients and proportions are basically what I was to enter.

I do not particularly like it, but got quite a bit of it while working in the agricultural extension service. I'm new to the forum, but will be attempting to put this on the Proudly South African group.
