Bernaise Sauce Recipe

Bernaise Sauce Recipe
This is a universal sauce that we use in our mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, and many other casserole dishes! It's creamy and just buttery enough.

Ingredients
  • 1 stick butter / margarine (1/2 cup)
  • 1 diced onion
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 cups milk (the thicker, the better. I use 2% but anything lower is ok too)
  • 1 tsp salt, or to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • *1 cup grated cheese (optional)

Directions
  1. Melt butter in medium size pot over low heat.
  2. Add onions and garlic and let bubble for a minute or two.
  3. Stir in flour
  4. Add milk and (increase heat to medium) bring to boil, stirring constantly until mixture thickens to a creamy sauce.
  5. Add salt and pepper. Add cheese (if using) and stir until cheese is melted into mixture.
  6. You can pour this over diced potatoes and top with cheese, or mix in with macaroni noodles, veggies, or any other type of casseroley thing.
