Ingredients
  • 1 medium jar of spaghetti sauce (I use Prego Traditional, use whatever or your own!)
  • 1 pound ground beef (spice it up with some Italian Sausage, or lean it out with some ground turkey, but the total needs to be 1 lb.)
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese, plus 1/4 cup same (real parm, or parm-reggiano would add that much more flavor!)
  • 1 box of mini penne (I use Barilla)
  • 8 oz. finely shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions
  1. Cook the pasta until just shy of al dente. Meanwhile, brown the meat in a skillet.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the cooked meat, sauce, the 1/2 cup grated cheese, and the pasta until thoroughly combined.
  3. Put into a 9 X 13 pan (you may want to spray the pan to ease cleanup)
  4. Top with all (and more if you want) of the mozzarella and sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup grated cheese.
  5. Bake in a pre-heated, 375 degree oven for 20 minutes.

I never use canned sauces but I am sure some are wonderful ,I love baked pasta dishes Thank you


I'm the opposite, only because I've never bothered to try to make my own red sauce. Someday I hope to, because I can only imagine that it would greatly increase the flavor of the dish.

As for canned sauce, I've found I prefer Prego, but that's just me. Hopefully someday soon I can start working on my own red sauce!


I'm actually making this tonight except I'm using a pound of ground italian turkey sausage and I'm adding a chopped onion to fry with it. I'm using a spicy canned marinara sauce and using small shell shaped pasta instead. Yum!
