Ingredients
  • 2c plus 2T sugar
  • 2c water
  • 1t cinnamon
  • 1/4t nutmeg
  • 1 stick butter
  • 6 apples
  • 2c flour
  • 2t baking powder
  • 1t salt
  • 3/4c cold butter cut into pieces
  • 1/2c milk
  • splash of lemon juice

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 375
  2. In saucepan combine 2c sugar, water 1/2 t cinnamon and 1/4 t nutmeg. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until sugar has dissolved. Add 4t butter and splash of lemon juice. Stir until incorporated. Set syrup aside.
  3. Peel, core and chop apples. Set aside.
  4. Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cut in 3/4c cold butter, until dough resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and stir.
  5. Divide dough into 6 balls. Rolll into 1/4" square. Spoon some apples into each square. Combine 2T sugar and 1/2t cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples. Dot with remaining 4T butter, then fold corners into center and pinch edges to form a star shaped pouch.
  6. Place in greased baking dish and spoon syrup over top.
  7. Bake 30 minutes until golden brown. Serve warm, spooning syrup from pan over top.
