Gold Nugget Flan Recipe
Love the flan, this has a delightful variation of almond flavoring and butterscotch pieces.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk, (14 ounce)
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 cup of butterscotch pieces

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. In a small sauce pan, melt sugar over medium heat until the sugar is a adark caramel colored liquid, stirring constantly.
  3. Pour into a 4 cup ring mold. Let cool so that the caramel hardens.
  4. Put remaining ingredients (except the butterscotch pieces) in a blender and mix well.
  5. Pour this mixture into the ring mold over the hardened caramel.
  6. Put this mold inside a larger pan with with water 1/2 inch deep.
  7. Bake one hour.
  8. Very carefully remove from oven and place on wire rack to cool ust enough to be able to remove the flan pan from the water getting burnt.
  9. Refrigerate and chill.
  10. To serve, cover the top of the mold with a large plate, and flip.
  11. The caramel will drizzle down the set custard.
  12. Sprinkle the top with the butterscotch pieces to mimic gold nuggets!
