How to make it

  • In a medium bowl, combine all ingredients. Cover and let soak in the refrigerator overnight.
  • Transfer the oat mixture to a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan.

I was hoping the overnight soak would have reduced the normal cook time for the stove top method which is about 30 minutes for 1 cup of oats, 4 cups liquid but it did only by about 10 minutes. I had to cook my overnight soaked oats a little more than 20 minutes until it was thick enough. I liked the addition of the vanilla and brown sugar but opted not to use the dried fruit.

This is awesome! I did change to a michigan cherry/cranberry mix for fruit but it was great. I can't wait to show this off at my next family get-together!

I will definitely try this overnight method. I have been having trouble with the oats getting very mushy and I wind up with a glutinous mass instead of individual grains--perhaps I should not be stirring. Thanx!
