How to make it

  • Mix together the 1 1/2 c. xxx sugar, salt, and egg (and cocoa for chocolate icing) in a bowl.
  • Make a simple syrup by mixing together the water and 1/4 c. sugar and cooking on HIGH in the microwave for 2 minutes. (You can also do this by bringing to a boil on the stove and cook for 1 minute. )

yeah that's why i shouldn't really call it bakery-style frosting. I can't imagine using it on everything UNLESS you add 3 cups of xxx sugar. but i love the glaze-ness and the butter flavor myself so i leave the recipe as is.
    Thanks for trying it!

This is very thin...more like a glaze, not a frosting. I ended up adding 3 cups of conf. sugar and some Crisco to lessen the strong butter flavor. This would be great on cinnamon rolls as is I think!
