How to make it

  • Rinse and dry chicken with paper towels.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine flour, salt, pepper and onion powder and coat chicken.
  • Set aside remaining flour mixture.
  • In a skillet, brown chicken in oil.
  • Transfer to an ungreased 9 x 9 inch or a little larger baking dish.
  • In a saucepan, saute onion, celery and garlic in butter.
  • Add reserved flour mixture and stir to form a thick paste.
  • Gradually add broth, lemon juice, basil and thyme and mix well.
  • Bring to the boil.
  • Cook for 2 minutes stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly.
  • Pour over the chicken.
  • Cover and bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until the juices run clear.
  • Serve over egg noodles or rice if desired.
  • Top each half with a couple of lemon slices and sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley.
  • Serves 4

    Isn't lemon great with chicken? Of course I wouldn't make this without the white wine or the stinking rose! Great recipe!
