Ingredients

How to make it

  • Add warm water, sugar, shortening, salt & yeast to mixing bowl..
  • mix 3 minutes with regular beaters.. sift all of your flour and add 3 cups of flour and mix well... remove beaters and attach the dough hooks and then gradually add the rest of the flour..
  • I have found on rainy days it takes a little bit more flour..
  • after it is thoroughly mixed I let it raise right in the mixing bowl..when it has not quite doubled I start the mixer on low and let it mix for a couple minutes and then pour it out into a greased bowl, cover it and let it rise double.. then divide into loafs and let rise again and bake..
  • 350* for about 30 minutes.. ovens vary so I take it out when it is golden brown.. I brush the top with a little butter..

Made this bread yesturday and it did not turn out. I let it rise for two hours at first (Rising times was not suggested here.) It did not rise. I than oiled it and let it sit yet again it did not rise. So, I cooked it for the time indicated above. It turned out to be a very dense, heavy and raw bread (not good to eat.)

I am a beginner to making bread although I did follow instructions to a tee. I even took step by step photo's for the making of this bread. No idea where I went wrong, or if there were instructions left out of this recipe.

Great easy instructions for making homemade bread, and especially on a busy day. There is nothing like homemade bread fresh from the oven! Thanks. :)
