How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to 180c/350f/gas mark 4
  • Cook the bacon under a grill for about 3 minutes then set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, use your hands gently but thoroughly mix together the mince, breadcrumbs, half the grated cheese, chopped onion, mayonnaise, pickle, mustard and egg.
  • Pat the mixture into a shallow baking pan.
  • Spread the top of the pie with the ketchup, then lay the cooked bacon strips over the top.
  • Bake until the pie is firm and the bacon is crisp (about 45 - 50 mins).
  • Sprinkle the top of the pie with the remaining cheese to melt during the last 5 mins of baking.
  • Let the pie stand in the baking dish for 10 mins, then cut into portions
