Black Bottom Pie

- 2 cups milk shopping list
- 1 envelope plain gelatin shopping list
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch shopping list
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 4 tablespoons cold water shopping list
- 4 egg holks beaten shopping list
- 2 squares baking chocolate melted shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 4 egg whites shopping list
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar shopping list
- 1/2 pint whipping cream whipped shopping list
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar shopping list
- 2 squares baking chocolate grated shopping list
- 1 pie shell baked shopping list
How to make it
- Soak gelatin in cold water and set aside.
- Scald milk then add sugar and cornstarch and stir until smooth. Add beaten egg yolks then cook in top of a double boiler until thick stir constantly.
- Stir in dissolved gelatin.
- Divide custard into halves.
- Add chocolate and vanilla to one half.
- Pour into a baked pie shell.
- Cool remaining half of custard.
- Beat egg whites and cream of tartar and slowly add 1/2 cup of sugar then blend with cooled custard.
- Spread over top of chocolate layer.
- Chill in refrigerator.
- Whip cream and sweeten with powdered sugar.
- Top custard with sweetened whipped cream.
- Sprinkle grated chocolate on top of whipped cream.
- Chill well before serving.
