Ingredients

How to make it

  • holding the watermelon lengthwise, cut a small piece of the skin from the middle about the size of a stick of butter, do not cut too deep you want the watermelon to lay flat, to keep it from rolling.
  • Now turn the melon over. take a ink pen and make a round circle in the top large enough so you can clean out all the watermelon from the inside with an ice cream scoop
  • Scoop out the melon with the ice cream scooper leaving enough melon on the walls of the mellon where it still is pink,
  • Place the scooped out melon that is in melon ball form in a large bowl and set aside. Throw away the other part of the melon if you cannot cut it into chunks. After you have completely cleaned out all the mellon, pick up the mellon and pour the juice out.
  • Peel and cut (except the oranges and the strawberries, grapes) all the remaining fruit into chunks and put in to a large bowl and set aside. Slice the oranges into thin slices and set aside, peel the grapes from the stems and wash. Rinse the strawberries, take a small paring knike and cut into each strawberries in the middle making v shapes all the way through and around the strawberries. the bottom part with the stem attach is what you want to use to decorate around the opening of the watermelon the bottom part is garnish for the top of the fruit after you fill the watermelon boat.
  • Mix the mellons, pineapples ,grapes, and the cantalopes pour into the body of the watermelon boat.
  • Take the small paring knife and start cutting v"s in the circle opening, where you drew the circle with the pin.
  • Now take the orange slices using the toothpicks place the slices 1at a time around the v circle stick the toothpick dead center of the orange slice leaving half of the toothpick showing now take the strawberrie with the stem and slide in down the toothpick if too much of the toothpick is still showing put some of the grapes down the toothpick to hide the wood.
  • Continue to do this all the way around the watermellon with the orange slices and strawberries, and grapes till the opening is filled.

Another great presentaion and very artistic platter. We love carving fruits and veggies for parties. The only thing is every one is affraid to eat it thinking that it is more like a floral arrangement. Until we tell them it is ment to be comsumed. Still, it is wonderful hearing all the oooohs and aaaahs!

    Thank you for sharing!

Girl you know you bad! I have carved a watermelon like this only once, but the added touch of decorating the outside is off the chain.
