How to make it

  • Cook sugar, water and lemon slice for about 5 minutes
  • Remove lemon slice
  • Remove syrup from heat until apples are ready
  • Peel, core and slice apples (1/4 to 1/2 ' slices)
  • Bring syrup to a simmer
  • Cook a few slices at a time until tender, placing cooked slices in a bowl
  • Do not overcook apples, they should be tender, not mushy
  • Add more water to syrup as needed
  • Pour syrup over apples when finished
  • Serve warm or chilled as a dessert
  • Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving
  • 4 to 6 servings
