Poached Apples Recipe
This is a just right dessert after any meal at any time of the year. Easy to make, fresh tasting...always a favorite when the kids were small. Great after school snack!

Ingredients
  • 3/4 C sugar
  • 1 1/2 C water
  • 1 slice of lemon
  • 6 cooking apples(2 lbs)
  • Nutmeg

Directions
  1. Cook sugar, water and lemon slice for about 5 minutes
  2. Remove lemon slice
  3. Remove syrup from heat until apples are ready
  4. Peel, core and slice apples (1/4 to 1/2 ' slices)
  5. Bring syrup to a simmer
  6. Cook a few slices at a time until tender, placing cooked slices in a bowl
  7. Do not overcook apples, they should be tender, not mushy
  8. Add more water to syrup as needed
  9. Pour syrup over apples when finished
  10. Serve warm or chilled as a dessert
  11. Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving
  12. 4 to 6 servings
