Poached Apples Recipe

Ingredients

3/4 C sugar

1 1/2 C water

1 slice of lemon

6 cooking apples(2 lbs)

Nutmeg

Directions

Cook sugar, water and lemon slice for about 5 minutes

Remove lemon slice

Remove syrup from heat until apples are ready

Peel, core and slice apples (1/4 to 1/2 ' slices)

Bring syrup to a simmer

Cook a few slices at a time until tender, placing cooked slices in a bowl

Do not overcook apples, they should be tender, not mushy

Add more water to syrup as needed

Pour syrup over apples when finished

Serve warm or chilled as a dessert

Sprinkle with nutmeg before serving

4 to 6 servings
