Red Velvet Cake

- 2 1/2 cups cake flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon baking powder shopping list
- 1 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/4 cup baking cocoa shopping list
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 cup butter-softened,no substitutes shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 3 eggs shopping list
- 2 1oz bottles red food coloring shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- Frosting: shopping list
- 8oz cream cheese-softened shopping list
- 1/2 stick butter-softened shopping list
- 1 cup marshmallow creme shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 4 cups confectioner's sugar shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease and flour two 9" cake pans.
- Sift together flour,baking powder,soda,salt,and cocoa. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl,cream butter and sugar until fluffy,about 5 minutes.
- Add eggs one at a time,beating after each addition.
- Turn mixer down to its lowest setting and carefully add vanilla and food coloring. Mix until well combined.
- Return mixer to previous setting and add flour alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pans.
- Bake 35-40 minutes or until inserted tookpick comes out clean.
- Let layers set in pans for 10 minutes then turn out onto cooling rack.
- Cool completely.
- Frosting:
- Beat cream cheese,butter,and marshmallow creme together until creamy. Stir in vanilla.
- Add confectioner's sugar a little at a time until mixture reaches a spreadable consistency.
- Frost cake and serve.
- Note:
- Nut lovers can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the top and sides of the frosted cake.
