How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease and flour two 9" cake pans.
  • Sift together flour,baking powder,soda,salt,and cocoa. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl,cream butter and sugar until fluffy,about 5 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time,beating after each addition.
  • Turn mixer down to its lowest setting and carefully add vanilla and food coloring. Mix until well combined.
  • Return mixer to previous setting and add flour alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with flour. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour batter into prepared pans.
  • Bake 35-40 minutes or until inserted tookpick comes out clean.
  • Let layers set in pans for 10 minutes then turn out onto cooling rack.
  • Cool completely.
  • Frosting:
  • Beat cream cheese,butter,and marshmallow creme together until creamy. Stir in vanilla.
  • Add confectioner's sugar a little at a time until mixture reaches a spreadable consistency.
  • Frost cake and serve.
  • Note:
  • Nut lovers can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the top and sides of the frosted cake.

    Not much of a baker but this makes me want to try. I have always loved Red Velvet cake and might try it for easter.
