How to make it

  • Tear bread into pieces and add milk and cream. Beat eggs and add sugar and mix well. Add to bread mixture and add vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir in butter. add raisins if desired. Pour into 2 quart baking dish that has been greased with butter. Set in larger pan of warm water. Water should be about an inch deep. Bake at 350 until knife inserted in center comes out clean, about one hour.
  • Rum or Whiskey Sauce
  • add cornstarch to milk and stir until dissolved. Add sugar and liquor and heat until slightly thickened. Dress each serving of Bread Pudding individually.

    The sauce can also be made with rum extract if alcohol is taboo. a lemon sauce also works.
