French Salad Dressing Recipe

French Salad Dressing Recipe
This is a family recipe that my grandmother's recipe cards cite as from "Aunt Jo." I'm not sure who that is, but I do know this is a super easy dressing that's better than the bottled sort.

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Oil (Vegetable or mild flavored oil is best here)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 ketchup
  • 3 tbsp vinegar (garlic vinegar is best, which my grandmother always made)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • pepper
  • pinch of ground cloves
  • 1 tsp grated onion

Directions
  1. Mix all together except last ingredient in a bowl or in a blender, mixing until thick.
  2. Add grated onion and mix briefly.
  3. Substitution: In place of part of the sugar, honey helps the dressing stay nice and thick.

Thank you for this Ambauer, I'll definetly try it.

I made this yesterday, and am so impressed! I took your advice and used honey , but didn't quite have enough so made up with reg white sugar, and since I don't have garlic infused vinegar, i grated a big clove right in the mix. and I LOVE bacon in my dressings so threw in some bacon pieces.....AWESOME!
Thanks so much!
