It has been a few years, but I remember going out to the woods in late spring/early summer and mark a young tree and wait until late fall when the tree went dormant, then dig up the plant roots. and bring it home. I could only drink 1 cup. Sassafras is known to be a natural sedative. But, it is rather relaxing. Thanks for nice memories. Have a good night...Cheryl

What a sweet memory! I think I will make my father take me out in our woods this weekend for Father's Day and remind me what the plant looks like and take some home to bring back those wonderful tastes of childhood! (It will be worth getting through the Bonnaroo traffic to relive this moment...maybe Allison Kraus and Robert Plant will be playing while I'm that close. My parent's farm is about a mile as a crow flies from the festival)

I always loved sassafras tea with honey!! Thanks for taking me down Memory Lane! A LONG time ago when I was a little girl, Daddy and I would walk through granny's woods and dig up sassafras roots. That is one of my favorite memories of time spent with him before he passed away. I wouldn't even know where to look for sassafras roots in this day and age! ;)
