How to make it

  • Cider Cake:
  • Mix and sift flour,soda,salt and spices
  • Mix about 1/2 cup with raisins
  • Cream shortening until soft and smooth,gradually add sugar
  • Whip until fluffy
  • Add well beaten egg yolks,and beat mixture thoroughly
  • Add flour mixture alternately with cider beating until smooth after each addition,stir in the floured raisins
  • Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites
  • Turn into greased and floured 13x9x2 pan
  • Bake at 350 degree
  • Bake for 1 hour
  • Cool cake,turn out on rack,serve with Cider Sauce
  • Cider Sauce:
  • Melt butter in sauce pan
  • Add very gradually combined brown sugar and flour
  • Stirring constantly
  • Add cider,brind to a boil and let thicken just a little
  • Remove from heat,pour into pitcher,sprinkle with nutmeg
  • Serve hot with your Cider Cake
  • Can thin sauce if it becomes to thick with cold cider
