PEAR SUNDAE FRENCH TOAST This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Hoffman Estate in Fort Worth, Texas in 1988.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cups plus 3 tablespoons packed brown sugar divided
  • 6 tablespoons butter divided
  • 1-1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon divided
  • 3 medium ripe pears peeled and sliced
  • 3 eggs lightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 6 slices French bread 1" thick
  • Ice cream

Directions
  1. In skillet combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tablespoons butter and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
  2. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved then add pears and cook until tender.
  3. In bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla, nutmeg, remaining brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Dip bread in egg mixture to coat each side.
  5. Melt remaining butter in a skillet then fry bread over medium heat for 2 minutes on each side.
  6. Top with ice cream and pear mixture.
