Apple Rag Roll - Very Old Recipe

- 2 cups water shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 6 medium tart apples sliced shopping list
- 2 cups flour shopping list
- 4 teaspoons baking powder shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 2 tablespoons water shopping list
- 3 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk shopping list
- sugar shopping list
- cinnamon shopping list
How to make it
- Make a syrup by boiling slowly the water and 1-1/2 cups sugar.
- Sift and mix dry ingredients together then cut in butter and add lightly beaten egg and milk.
- Pat dough to 1/2” thickness on lightly floured board.
- Spread sliced apples on top of dough then sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll up mixture then cut off in slices.
- Set slices in cooled syrup mixture in a shallow baking pan.
- Bake in a moderate oven until lightly browned and dough springs back from touch.
