This is a really good especially if you like dumplings. The sauce is so creamy and delicious. Its a comfort food and one of my faves.

Ingredients
  • 1 chicken cut up or chicken breasts
  • ½ c. flour
  • 1 ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ cup (1 stick) margarine
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 tbsp paprika
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup light or heavy cream
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • Spatzle
  • 3 cup flour
  • 1tsp salt
  • 3 eggs slightly beaten
  • 1 cup water

Directions
  1. Flour chicken in1 tsp of the salt and pepper until coated.
  2. Reserve 2 tbsp of the flour mix.
  3. Brown chicken in margarine in a large skillet and take out.
  4. Sauté onion in fat until golden brown.
  5. Add paprika, remaining ½ tsp salt and chicken broth.
  6. Bring to boil.
  7. Lower heat and return chicken.
  8. Turn to coat.
  9. Cover and cook for 30 mins or until chicken is tender.
  10. Remove chicken, keep warm.
  11. Stir in cream.
  12. Make a paste of the reserved 2 tbsp of flour and put in sour cream.
  13. Slowly stir into skillet.
  14. Cook stirring constantly until thickened.
  15. Return chicken.
  16. Serve over Spatzle.
  17. To make Spatzle:
  18. Combine flour and salt.
  19. Make well in center.
  20. Add eggs and water and mix thoroughly.
  21. Get dough with a tsp and put in boiling salted water.
  22. When they rise to the top scoop out and strain.
  23. Put into bowl with melted butter and keep warm.

This dish has all the right ingredients, My father-in-law, (true Hungarian) use to make it all the time, I never got his recipe, but he never really had one. It was all upstairs. Will enjoy making it. Thanks so much!
