How to make it

  • Melt 1/4 butter in large saucepan over low heat
  • Add flour and cook, stirring constantly for 2 to 3 minutes or until flour is lightly browned
  • Add milk and bring to boil, stirring constantly.
  • Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened.
  • Stir in Ceddar cheese, onion, salt and pepper.
  • Spread 1/4 cup cheese mixture in a greased 13 x 9 baking dish.
  • Layer half of potatoes over cheese.
  • Top with half of remaining cheese mixture.
  • Repeat with remaining potatoes and cheese.
  • Bake uncovered at 325 for 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Stir together breadcrumbs, melted butter, and Parmsan cheese.
  • Spread over potatoes,
  • Return potatoes to oven and bake uncovered for 20 to 30 more minutes or until potatoes are tender.
