This is the perfect dish to bring to a pot luck breakfast, such as in the work place or at church. The recipe was provided to me by my mother, but it came from a friend of hers who served it Christmas morning for 30 years.

Ingredients
  • 6 slices bread, crusts off (it takes me 7 slices)
  • 1 pound pork sausage patties, browned and drained; crumbled
  • 6 ounces shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, approximately

Directions
  1. Butter each slice of bread, place in buttered 9" x 13" pan.
  2. Spread pork sausage over bread.
  3. Sprinkle cheese over sausage.
  4. Mix together: eggs, half and half, and salt.
  5. Pour liquid into baking dish.
  6. Cover with foil.
  7. Refrigerate over night.
  8. Uncover, remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before baking.
  9. Bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes.
