How to make it

  • Sift dry ingredients into a bowl.
  • Add the melted shortening, orange juice, milk, egg and flavor extract.
  • Beat with mixture to combine well.
  • Stir in the cranberries.
  • Place mixture in a greased 9 inch square pan.
  • Bake in a 350F oven for about 45 minutes or until set.
  • Remove to rack to cool to warm.
  • Make sauce: Over low heat ( or use a double boiler ) melt butter and add sugar ands cream and mix well until sugar is dissolved and sauce thickens a bit, about 5 minutes or so.
  • Remove from heat, add flavor extract if desired.
  • Serve sauce over the pudding.
  • About 6 to 8 servings depends how you cut the pieces.
  • Refrigerate leftovers.
  • Both sauce and pudding cake can be gently rewarmed
