How to make it

  • Pick ripe red fruit with tongs or leather gloves
  • singe off spines over fire
  • wear leather gloves to rub off peel
  • cut peeled fruit into quarters
  • barely cover with water in large pot
  • cook 20 minutes until real soft
  • strain through folded cotton tea towel or four thicknesses of cheesecloth
  • (the directions end there, but I assume that you would mix all the ingredients together and put it in jars)
